In 2016, a significant portion of the Zambian population lacked access to affordable mobile devices, hindering widespread digital connectivity.
The Solution
From 2016 to 2018, Astro Mobile entered a device supply partnership with Airtel Zambia. Astro Mobile provided a portfolio of low-cost, high-quality devices to meet the diverse needs of the market. This included a mix of 70% feature phones, which were crucial for basic communication and mobile money services, and 30% entry-level smartphones to introduce more advanced internet capabilities.
Impact
The partnership successfully connected over *1 million Zambians* to the mobile network. This initiative demonstrated Algebra Technologies’ deep commitment to expanding connectivity across the continent and its ability to execute large-scale projects with a major telecommunications partner.
